I’m Zayda Fleming, a multi medium artist based in the Pacific Northwest. I’ve been a compulsive creator since early childhood. This motivated me to pursue my BA in Fine Arts, which I graduated with Summa Cum Laude in 2016.
I use ink, paint, and thread to create evocative things of beauty that appeal not just to the eye but to the heart and soul. The goal for any piece I make is to create a sacred space, a touchstone for the viewer to feel seen.
My mermaids reflect a sense of inquiry and a search for transcendent experiences.
My line art seeks to reduce the barriers we use to separate ourselves so we can recognize ourselves in broader strokes and sense our need for connection and understanding.
My embroidery, particularly clothing repair and embellishment, honors the need to achieve sustainability in our society and bring individuality to mass produced items that otherwise leave us feeling unrepresented by the very things we expect to represent us the most.
My nudes express the beauty of the human form and to honor the physical existence of life. I began working on nude art to confront my internalized shame around nudity, sensuality, and to deconstruct how feminine nudity is perceived as inherently sexual.
My lace wheels utilize secondhand and vintage items such as doilies, embroidery and macrame hoops, and various decorative elements. The process of upcycling drawing attention to the artistry of the reclaimed components, refreshing the old into modern home decor.
Examples of my art can be found at the social media links below. You can also browse my current original art offerings in my Etsy shop, peruse prints and other merchandise on Society6, or become a supporter of my work on Patreon.
I am available for custom work, and I can be contacted at zaydalicious.designs@gmail.com for questions.
When not creating I can be found reading novels, obsessing over my cat, and nerding out over anime.
